Icon Database

Version 2.1 now supports Windows Hi-Res Icons.

If you have a large number of .ICO files on your hard disk they will be taking up more space than you think. Although each file is only 766 bytes, Windows will allocate up to 32K per icon (plus the 3 or 4 directory entries Windows 95 allocates to each file). You can ZIP up the icons you are not using, but then you can no longer see them.

Even if you use Windows you are wasting 80% of your disk by not using the Icon Database.

The Icon Database allows you to drop .ICO files from Windows Explorer into the database. Once the .ICO files are stored in The Icon Database they can be deleted from your hard disk, recovering a lot of space in the process. The Icon Database stores all the icons in one file.

Once the icons are stored they can still be viewed and saved back to .ICO files to be used in application development. As all the icons are in one file they are opened faster and consume less system resources when displayed to the screen.
